MARINA DE LAGOS SPONSORS ATLANTIC ROWING BOAT CROSSING FROM PORTUGAL TO BRASIL

Marina de Lagos has become the latest sponsor of the Paraguaçu - Travessia Atlântica project, an ocean crossing made by rowing boat scheduled for the end of 2012 between Portugal and Brazil, following the route of the ancient Portuguese navigators. The 7.2 metre rowing vessel will be piloted by José Tavares, who will single-handedly row via  the Morocco - Canary Islands - Cape Verde - Fernando Noronha, Brazil (state of Natal) ocean route, over a total distance of nearly 5,000 kilometres. The journey is expected to last 120 days and José Tavares will be the first Portuguese national to attempt this crossing alone.

Sponsored by Marina de Lagos, the Paraguaçu will be moored at the centre between June and October, enabling intensive preparation to take place along the Algarve coast throughout the summer, which is absolutely essential for successful outcome.
